Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN), has called on Federal Government (FG), to create the right atmosphere to enable young inventors to unleash their potential on the nation’s economy.
The founder of the group, Mr Andrew Abu, made the call during interview with newsmen on Wednesday.
He said young innovators should be involved in formulation and implementation of policies in the technology and innovation sector of the economy.
Abu emphasized the need for improved policy implementation, infrastructure, and public-private partnerships to boost innovation in Nigeria.
He noted that poor power supply, limited broadband access and inadequate research facilities hinder innovation, while the migration of skilled professionals further weakens the sector.
He urged the government to offer stronger incentives, better funding, and prioritize local innovators in contract awards over foreign firms.
Abu also called on the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, and agencies like TETFund, to support organisations like YIN.
According to him, YIN bridge the gap between research and real-world applications by offering training, mentorship, and funding.
He stressed that including young innovators in TETFund’s mandate would strengthen the startup ecosystem and align with its STEM goals.
Abu concluded that reducing bureaucracy and proactively supporting indigenous research and innovation would create the environment needed for innovation to thrive.
