The Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency (ASPHCDA) will launch the third round of its Big Catch Up (BCU) vaccination campaign on April 22.
The vaccination is targeting nine low-performing LGAs: Aguata, Ayamelum, Anaocha, Idemili North, Idemili South, Ihiala, Orumba North, Orumba South, and Nnewi South.
ASPHCDA Executive Secretary, Mrs. Chisom Uchem—represented by Dr. Nnamdi Uliagbafusi— said the exercise will run from April 22 to 27 at health centres and designated community locations.
The campaign aims to close immunisation gaps, especially among zero-dose and under-immunised children, and strengthen routine vaccination efforts.
State Immunisation Officer, Mrs. Edith Onwuka, noted that the state exceeded its 65% coverage target, helping curb disease outbreaks.
She said the third round is crucial for children completing their vaccination schedules.
Mr. Ndubisi Oji of WHO reported 96% and 94% coverage in the first and second rounds, respectively, and encouraged continued stakeholder support.
UNICEF consultant Dr. Uju Eze called for innovative mobilisation strategies.
Anambra state Health Educator Mrs. Uju Onwuegbuzina urged parents to bring children for safe and effective immunisation.
