Police nab 2 over murder of octogenarian in Anambra

Police in Anambra state have arrested two suspects over alleged murder of an 80-year old woman in Ihiala, Ihiala local government area of the state.

Command Spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who confirmed this on Tuesday gave the names of the suspects as Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, all from Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala.

According to him, the police recovered a black CG motorcycle which the suspects allegedly stole from the deceased before they ran out of luck.

Ikenga however hinted that two other suspects known as Alla and Emeka said to be members of the gang are currently at large.

He said, “Today, 8th April 2025, the Divisional Police Station have in custody one Chidiebere Igboanugo and Emmanuel Ibeabuchi from Umunwaji Ogboro, Ihiala over the murder of an 80 years old woman.

Ikenga explained that the suspects tied Mrs. Theresa Igbojonu, a fellow villager, by the legs and mouth before murdering her.”

“Investigation of the incident has been ongoing since the receipt of the complaint on 2nd April 2025 by 11.30 pm.

Meanwhile, a Joint Security Team during a patrol in Ihiala had earlier arrested Chidiebere Igboanugo on 5th April 2025 when the deceased’s son saw the suspect driving the stolen motorcycle along Ezego junction in Ihiala.

“Upon interrogation of Chidiebere, the Security Operatives acted swiftly yesterday 7th April 2025 and arrested Emmanuel Ibeabuchi, whom Chidiebere mentioned as part of the gang that committed the crime.

“Further information revealed that two other suspects known as Alla and Emeka, currently at large are part of their gang members.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate transfer of the Case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Awka for discreet investigation.

“He urges the Operatives to intensify efforts in arresting the mentioned suspects that are currently on the run.

The suspects will be charged to court when investigations are concluded.
